The location of a theft takes place during a huge jewellery expo that is held in Mumbai. A frenzied phone call causes concern, shooting is heard, the police officers on duty herd the scared gathering into a hidden spot, and while the chaos is going on, a fistful of rare jewels go somewhere in the middle of the chaos.

Jimmy Shergill reprises his role as Jaswinder Singh, the chief investigator, as he focuses down on three suspects. A long-time worker at a jewelry store named Mangesh Desai (played by Mehta), his attractive coworker Kamini (played by Tamannaah Bhatia), and a computer technician named Sikandar Sharma (played by Avinash Tiwary) who is in a frantic rush to leave the premises immediately the all-clear signal is sounded. Their stance that they had nothing to do with the heist is strengthened by Jaswinder’s persistent pursuit of them, which they continue to maintain. Are their protests excessively loud? Or are they genuinely innocent, showing Jaswinder’s renowned “instinct” to be incorrect and tarnishing his impeccable track record of apprehending every single crook he has come across?

The latest film that Neeraj Pandey has directed, in which he also has a scripting credit alongside Vipul K. Rawal, is quite the heist that he has pulled off. The “heeron ki chori” is only a lead-up to a film that is more of a pulpy character study than an out-and-out thriller, which is a rare beast in Bollywood. Despite the fact that the tension of whodunit and howdunit continues to boil, the two-hour plus duration is filled with unexpected turns and twists that you don’t see coming. There are certain things that I did figure out, but the surprises kept coming, which made the experience quite pleasurable.

Having said that, there are several narrative holes and contrivances, and a few characters aren’t developed as much as they might have been, but considering the genre, you are ready to accept these things in stride. Because just as you are about to roll your eyes, something unexpected takes place, and your attention is distracted, which is precisely what the filmmakers want to happen.

The storyline of the movie spans fifteen years, beginning in 2009, when the theft took place, and ending in the current day, when the mystery is being attempted to be solved through a sequence of flashbacks throughout the film. The way in which an incident such as this may have an effect on people’s lives and lead them in unexpected paths is weaved throughout the telling of the story. The characters appear and feel older, exactly as they should, despite the fact that some of the make-up appears to be applied with a lot of effort.

To keep us watching, the ensemble is the most important factor. Jaswinder’s career has taken a nosedive, but his obsessive views have not been shaken. It is this feature that has caused him to break ways with his partner (Dutta, in a minor role, has a significant effect), and Shergill portrays his character with the appropriate amount of weary conviction. To demonstrate that she is capable of being’stree’ enough, Tamannaah Bhatia demonstrates that she does not require simply dance routines in horror comedies in order to attract attention. For once, Rajeev Mehta is given a job that is more than simply a forgettable one on the side this time around. Avinash Tiwary, who is now riding high on the popularity of his re-release of “Laila Majnu,” is, as always, a treat to listen to.

In the quest of effective story-telling, being on an over-the-top platform allows you to disregard major performers. Alternatively, this is what it was meant to symbolize until the streamers were likewise dragged into empty starry proposals that produced no outcomes. “Sikandar Ka Muqadaar,” whose title is a pun on one of Amitabh Bachchan’s big films from the late 1970s, is a great illustration of how you can get a picture going on the basis of the script and acting, with stars serving the story, which is exactly how it should be.
