Ariana Grande is spreading the enchantment of “Wicked” with her beloved grandmother, Marjorie “Nonna” Grande.
The talented singer and actress, currently captivating audiences as Glinda the Good Witch in the “Wicked” movie, took a delightful detour to her hometown of Boca Raton, Florida on Monday. There, she enjoyed a special screening of the film alongside her beloved Nonna, who celebrated her remarkable 99th birthday in October.
“Took a quick trip to Boca to enjoy a movie with Nonna,” Grande shared on her Instagram Stories, featuring a snapshot of herself alongside her grandmother and brother Frankie in a cozy, dimly lit theater.
Grande shared that they watched the film at “the movie theater I grew up going to every weekend,” and gave a shoutout to her boyfriend Ethan Slater, who also stars in the movie as Boq, for capturing the moment with the photo.
She shared a delightful video of her Nonna beaming as she watched Grande’s “Popular” musical number on the big screen.
“Excited to share that when the sugar glider performed her drum solo, nonna exclaimed loudly, ‘oh, I LOVE that,’” the Grammy-winner wrote in another slide.
In March, Grande’s Nonna made history by becoming the oldest artist ever to grace the Billboard Hot 100 at the remarkable age of 98, as reported by the music charting site. Grande’s song “Ordinary Things” features a citation of her Nonna as a featured artist. The track made its entrance on the chart at position No. 55.
Grande shares the screen with Cynthia Erivo, who takes on the role of Elphaba, in “Wicked,” the film adaptation of the cherished Broadway musical that explores the events in Oz prior to Dorothy’s arrival.
The film directed by Jon M. Chu hit theaters on Friday, generating an impressive estimated $162 million at the global box office during its opening weekend. It secured the position of the third highest-grossing opening weekend of 2024, trailing only “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Inside Out 2.”
