An English actress, singer, and composer, Cynthia Erivo is a member of the chorus. There are a number of awards that she has been honored with, such as a Daytime Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award. In addition, she has been nominated for two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Her portrayals as Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple, Deloris Van Cartier / Sister Mary Clarence in the musical tour of Sister Act, and Harriet Tubman in the film Harriet (2019) have brought her a great deal of recognition.
In Stockwell, South London, Cynthia Erivo was born to parents who were originally from Nigeria. She attended La Retraite R.C. Girls School for her formal education. She began her education at the University of East London, where she majored in music psychology; however, she enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and went on to get training there. She graduated with a degree in music psychology.
