Immediately following the passing of their mother Debbie Nelson, Nathan “Nate” Kane Mathers, who is Eminem’s half-brother, has expressed his thoughts and feelings.
Three months after it was determined that Nelson was “terminally ill” from lung cancer, Nelson passed away on December 2 in St. Joseph, Missouri. 69 was her age.
Yesterday, on December 3, Nate, who is 38 years old, posted an open and honest update on his Instagram Story about how he is coping with the death of his loved one.
His words were written on a dark backdrop, and they said, “Hatred and mixed emotions today.”
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known by his stage as Eminem, has not yet provided a statement about the passing of his mother.
Nate Kane has released songs under the stage name “Nate Kane,” following in the footsteps of his brother, who created the same moniker. In addition, he has been in a number of music videos associated with Eminem, such as the smash song “Without Me” from 2002 and the single “Sing for the Moment” from 2003.
The year 2018 was the year that the music producer tied the knot with Ashley Mae Mathers. They have been blessed with three children: one daughter, two sons, and a daughter named Audrianna, Liam, and Carter.
It is not true that Eminem and Nate have the same father. When Nelson was still a little child, the rapper’s father, Marshall Mathers Jr., abandoned him and returned to his mother. After a number of years had passed, when Eminem was thirteen years old, his mother welcomed Nate at the home of her lover, Fred Samra.
Ever since her two kids were little boys, Nelson has had a connection with them that has been fraught with conflict. At the age of eight, Nate was placed in the care of foster parents. The relationship between Nate and Eminem, on the other hand, remained strong throughout the years, and once Nate turned 23, the music legend was granted full custody of his younger brother.
During an interview with Rolling Stone in 2004, the vocalist of “Lose Yourself” revealed that she had intended to obtain custody of Nate when he was initially placed in foster care.
“I always said that if I ever get in a position to take him, I would take him,” he added. “When he was taken away, I always said that I would take him.” When I was twenty years old, I attempted to submit an application for full custody, but I was unable to do so because I lacked the financial resources.
Looking back, Nate considers it a gift that his brother was able to obtain custody of him. He feels that it was a blessing.
During the episode of the Just a Little Shady podcast that aired in February 2023, Nate stated, “He was the best role model I could have had to help me succeed in becoming the father that I am today.”
During the course of her 2008 autobiography, which was titled My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem: Setting the Record Straight on My Life as Eminem’s Mother, Nelson revealed extensive details on her relationship with Eminem.
While reading the book, Nelson said that her oldest son’s remarks about her that were included in a number of his lyrics were exaggerated. As a result, she filed a lawsuit against him in the year 2000 for defamation in the expectation that she would be awarded the money necessary to prevent the foreclosure of her home.
The lawsuit was resolved in 2001 for just $25,000, with the judge ordering that $23,354 go to her former attorney’s legal expenses, leaving Nelson with only $1,646. She submitted a request for damages in the amount of $10 million; however, the case was settled for just $25,000.
