Following her successful comeback to the Golden Globes, Demi Moore was awarded the award for best actress for her performance in a body horror film, which has been essential in revitalizing her career.

Following the presentation of her prize, the 62-year-old actress delivered a passionate statement in which she informed the audience that she had been “at a low point” before to being cast in The Substance.

Moore referred to the award as a celebration of “the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong at the same time.”

Emilia Pérez, The Brutalist, and Wicked were among the other films that were awarded prizes, while Baby Reindeer and Shōgun were the winners of the major television prizes.

One of the most important ceremonies of the awards season, the Golden Globes, is often regarded as a reliable predictor of who will emerge victorious at the Academy Awards.

The Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres was awarded the award for best drama actress for her outstanding performance in the film I’m Still Here. She was able to win the award despite facing opposition from Hollywood A-listers Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman. This was one of the most surprising moments of the evening.

The Golden Globes, in contrast to the Academy Awards, divide the majority of its categories into two distinct awards: one award is given for dramas, while a separate medal is given for musicals and comedies.

Moore was awarded the prize for best actress in a musical or comedy.

‘Popcorn actress’

Moore received an award for the very first time this year, despite the fact that she was a regular attendee of the Globes during the 1990s and 2000s.In the film The Substance, she plays the role of a woman who gives up her body in exchange for a younger and more attractive version of herself.

After winning in such a tough category, which also featured Anora star Mikey Madison, Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo, and Emilia Pérez actress Karla Sofía Gascón, Moore expressed that she was “in shock” over her ability to achieve such a remarkable feat.

“I’ve been doing this a long time, over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor,” Moore stated in his interview.

“I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress thirty years ago, and at that time, I made that mean that [awards] weren’t something that I was permitted to have. I made that mean that I could do movies that were popular and earned a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged for my accomplishment.

“I bought in, and I believed it, and that corroded me over time, to the point where I felt a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was finished. I believed that I was finished. I have completed the tasks that were assigned to me.

“And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance, and the universe told me that you’re not done.”

Emilia prevails

In other news, Emilia Pérez, a musical in Spanish that tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who transforms into a different gender, was the most successful film of the year, winning four prizes.

When Karla Sofía Gascón, a transgender actress, accepted the award for the best musical or comedy film, she addressed the crowd and said, “I want to say to you, raise your voice, and say, ‘I am who I am, not who you want.'”

Zoe Saldaña, her co-star, was awarded the title of best supporting actress. In an enthusiastic acceptance speech, she expressed her appreciation to the audience, saying that her heart is filled with gratitude.

“I’m so blessed to be sharing this moment with my fellow nominees,” she stated to reporters. “I know this is a competition but all I have witnessed is just us showing up for each other and celebrating each other and it’s just so beautiful.”

Following her victory, Saldaña finds herself in a privileged position within one of the most competitive categories at the Oscars for this year.

The movie also took home awards for best original song and best picture in a language other than English. In his acceptance of the latter prize, director Jacques Audiard expressed his hope that Emilia Perez will serve as a guiding light during these difficult times.

Brady Corbet was awarded the title of best director, and during his acceptance speech, he noted that the picture was not a conventional box office prospect.

“Nobody was asking for a three-and-a-half hour film about a mid-century designer,” he said with laughter.

“I was informed that this picture could not be distributed, that no one would come out to watch it, and that the film would not be successful, and I do not feel any resentment against such statements.

Nevertheless, I would want to take use of this chance to encourage filmmakers… Without the filmmakers, films would come into being. Let’s show our support for the filmmakers and give them a boost at the same time.

Wicked may not have clinched the top honors, but it certainly triumphed with a remarkable box office achievement. It mirrors the journey of Barbie, which received numerous nominations but secured only the box office award last year.

In a heartfelt moment while accepting the prize, Wicked’s director Jon M Chu honored the dedicated fanbase of both the film and stage musical, which beautifully narrates the origin story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.

“This is dedicated to you, the incredible fans who filled the movie theatres, brought along your friends and family. We witnessed your videos, your singalongs, your creativity with make-up and hair products, and even your delicious bakery items,” he expressed.

“It highlights the significance of creating in an era dominated by pessimism and cynicism, reminding us that we can still produce art that serves as a bold expression of optimism.”

In a thrilling twist, the animated feature category crowned an unexpected yet deserving champion. Flow, a captivating tale of animals uniting to overcome the challenges of a flood, triumphed over box office titans The Wild Robot and Inside Out 2.

“This film was crafted by a dedicated, youthful team in a location without a prominent film industry. It’s a significant milestone for us, as it’s the first time a film from Latvia has made its presence here,” stated director Gints Zilbalodis.

In a remarkable achievement, Torres made history as the first Brazilian actress to clinch the award for best drama actress, a title her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, was nominated for back in 1999.

“What an incredible year it has been for female performances,” Torres remarked. “This is a heartfelt dedication to my mother, who was here 25 years ago. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of art throughout life.”

Among the other TV winners were Jeremy Allen White from The Bear, Jodie Foster from True Detective, and Jean Smart from Hacks.

Baby Reindeer has been honored as the best limited series, a prestigious accolade accepted by its talented writer and creator, Richard Gadd.

“Many people wonder why a show with such a dark theme has achieved the level of success it has,” he remarked. “Many individuals seemed to be yearning for a voice that addressed the painful contradictions of the human experience.”

“For some time now, there’s been a prevailing notion in television that narratives that are overly dark and intricate won’t attract viewers. I hope Baby Reindeer challenges that idea, especially in a world where so many are facing struggles. We need stories that resonate with the complex and challenging realities of our current times.”

During her acceptance speech, Gunning recounted a heartwarming story from her childhood about receiving a hamster for Christmas, expressing her disbelief that such a wonderful moment was unfolding in her life. She remarked that phrase had turned into the “soundtrack of my life this year”.

I’m incredibly grateful to Richard Gadd; Baby Reindeer has transformed my life in ways I can’t fully articulate. “I can hardly wrap my head around this,” she said again, “and I’m certain that the eight-year-old version of me would be absolutely thrilled.”

Colin Farrell, the talented Irish actor, has secured his third Golden Globe for his captivating portrayal of the Penguin, the iconic Batman villain, in the HBO series bearing the same name.

On stage, he humorously remarked that he had “no one to thank” and that he “did it all by myself”.

Reflecting on the three hours spent getting fitted with prosthetics to transform into the bloated villain for his latest film, he remarked: “In the morning, I savored black coffee, tuned into 80s music, and became a canvas for that team’s brilliance.”

Farrell expressed gratitude by saying, “Thank you for employing me.” Well, it looks like it’s all about prosthetics from this point forward.
